557 hands $395(Nearing the end of the month)

Olavsoka, a Faroese national holiday is over and this month of poker is comming to an end. I don't plan on playing alot tomorrow, even though it is my last chance to make an impact on my monthly result. I am having some friends over for a Sit and Go tourney or two.

I am writing this on the morning of the 31st and the 550 hands I played were on the 29th. I can't say the session is clear in my mind, I remember ending it on a positive note, but being up almost $400 surprised me.

T9o in the Big Blind: Atlast an overbet that pays off and I had already forgotten about it. If you havn't read my diary for the last week or so, I have been complaining about people never calling my overbets when I have the goods and always calling when I am on a draw.

Poker didn't really have anything specail in store today. I am just trying to get to the end of the month, without loosing any of my profits.

Today is the first day of a local holiday called Olavsoka. It is similar to mardi gras I imagine and is supposed to last two days. It usually lasts a bit longer, because people don't want to end the party.
Since my dad started to work with addicts, I have taken an oath of sobriety at his workplace, the Blue Cross. At times like this I feel a bit estranged, with my friends partying. I hate drunk people when I am sober and I hate sober people when I am drinking. I havn't had a problem with drinking, I just took the oath to support my dads organization, thus I havn't had a drink for two years.
Most of my friends enjoy drinking now and then and I do want to join them when there is a special occasion, so I have been thinking about resigning from the Blue Cross.

I missed writing my blog yesterday. These last two days have featured alot of ups and downs, but I couldn't be happier about the end result.

I havn't played exceptionally good, but I havn't had too many streaks of bad play either. Yesterday ended with a minus, after a couple of bad beats I wont bore you with. Today's session went from good to great when I landed the biggest pot sofar in my poker carreer.

A9o in the BB: A $2.700 pot netted me a profit of $1.500 and all the money went in when all I had was three of a kind. I think the hand isn't that interesting otherwise, I put my opponents on draws or the 9 with a worse kicker or possibly an overpair. If one of them is gonna show me 33, he can have my money.

There was one funny hand that happened in the session I had yesterday.

J9o on the Button: I meant to bet pot and this is the first time I have ever misclicked on Full Tilt Poker. I can't say I like the Small Blinds call, even if he is sure my bet is a misclick.

Other things keep fighting over my time and I can't seem to get my regular rythm from last month of 1000 hands a day back. Dungeons and Dragons Online, friends, summer and my brother is on visit from Denmark.

I can't say I am dissapointed about how the month is turning out, but I really wanted to get more hands in. Hopefully I can shape up come next month.

I had a bad run today and coupled with only playing my "B" game at times it left me down a hefty sum. Don't get me wrong, my "B" game is not unprofitable, if I hadn't suffered a couple of bad beats I would have been up overall.
I played in a live tourney aswell and was very happy with my play there, but alas bad beats had me out in 6th place and only top 3 got money.

I explored the overbet push again today, with very bad results again. I simply don't seem to get called when I have a nut hand, but do get called when I am on a draw. To me it seemes like the board has the same texture and I play them the same way against the same opponents, but the results are never in my favor. Perhaps I have just been very unfortunate with my timing, but I can't help but suspect that there is something wrong with the play that I just don't get yet.

On another note, I do feel ready to start putting in some hours of work each day again. Hopefully I can start preparing my bankroll for the next level, while cashing home some money in the meanwhile.

I overbet pushed twice today and got called in both instances, also loosing both times. Not that it preoccupies my mind, but I it made me think about the value of the play.

87s on the Button: Here is the first time I push. In this example I have about a 46% chance of winning the hand. I did not like the push when I thought about it afterwards, because I acted too fast. I didn't give my opponent time to start worrying about my holding. The flop went check, bet, raise, push, call in very fast order.
If I would have stopped to think, I would have realized that he might have me dominated with a bigger flushdraw here and might well have called with such a holding.

T9s Under the Gun: This push I like better, the stacks are bigger, I have a better draw and the player I am doing it against is a stronger opponent capable of laying down stronger hands than the previous opponent.
That he happends to have flopped a set is offcourse unfortunate. I still have a 42% chance of winning this race.

I am gonna think some more about the overbet push play. I don't think I will strike it from my arsenal of moves, but I might choose to employ it in diffrent settings.
