January 19th - LAG and variance.

Monthly goal: $7.000
I'm at $743

I have played a lot of quick sessions these past two days. In some I've played well, but quit after a bad beat, in others my play has not been too stellar. I've struggled with too much aggression and too little focus.

87s Under the Gun: This is my biggest loosing hand from my last two days and it sure is ugly. On the river I got the feeling it might be a person tilting away money with AK or AJ which missed.

Looking through the rest of my loosing hands, I can't find too many ugly mistakes like the one above.
Playing a LAG style does put some more strain on the bankroll and I will have to get used to larger swings, if I want to employ it. I still think it is the most profitable style at times. But when you fail to hit flops or catch draws it can cost a lot.

Do you open limp much and which hands do you open-limp with?

I see it all the time on middle stakes games, and IMO it's a big, big leak to open-limp in 6max games.

I would like to hear your thoughts about open-limping in 6max games? :)

I rarely limp in 6 max games, but in some cases I think it is the best play.

From UTG and Middle Position I sometimes limp with some pocket pairs.

Against some Big Blind and Small Blind opponents I open limp with a couple of hands on the Button and in the Cut Off.

If I really am tuned in on one table and there are some bad players I have reads on, then when I think the situation is right I'll loosen up to the point where I limp with a couple of more hands.

The example hand in this post was me playing badly.

Hey there,
I just wanted to wish you luck and tell you that i enjoy reading your blog. By the way you are spelling the word "lose" incorectly. The word "loose" would be used is in such context as "loose vagina." Basically instead of stating i was loosing at the tables, you should be writting i was losing at the tables.

good luck

Perhaps I was wrong in my earlier comment.

I have given it some more thought and given the way the current short handed mid stakes games play, I am more inclined to agree with you RoiDa.
Perhaps it is seldom if ever correct to open limp.

Loose/lose

Lol, I wasn't aware of that. Hope I can remember to spell it correctly in future posts.
Thanks for the heads up :)

Against very bad players, sometimes an open-limp can be the best play.

But at an average 2/4 game the players usually have an OK sense for poker, and IMO people who open-limp define their hand, and are too easy to read pre-flop.

The better players at 2/4 will immediatly see that you open-limp and BAM, you've just told them what you have. ;)

If most of the players at a table are over 100 BB's I raise every pocket pair, and sometimes even suited connectors if the table is tight.

There are even more reasons for not to open-limp at 6max, but that will be too much for me on here.

Ps. Keep updating your blog - reading it every day. :)
